What does the SASO energy efficiency label mean for an air conditioner? How does it help in purchasing?

SASO(Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization) labels include the important key metrics of an air conditioner that can help in understanding how efficient a unit will be during its operation. SASO classifies the unit into an energy class between A - G based on the SEER rating of the unit.

The important thing to look out for is whether the unit has sufficient BTU to provide necessary cooling for your room as well as how much energy it is consuming while doing so. As a general consensus around 45BTU is required for cooling an area of one square foot but this can vary depending on many factors like ceiling height, sunlight exposure, no of windows, no of outside wall, insulation material of wall and so on.

Simply putting an air conditioner which has a BTU rating much higher than what is required for the room is also a bad practice as the air conditioner will operate only for short cycles and won't run long enough to reduce the indoor humidity to a comfortable level. Added to this the higher energy usage and cost of the unit.
